Excuse me for asking on this forum, as I know it is meant to only be for the Festival de Paredes de Coura, but I saw earlier that a Canadian band I like is playing at another Portugese festival which starts just after this one. It's apparently called the "Alliance Fest". But I can't find any information about this on the internet. Does anyone know where I can find out about this? We're just touring with the car, so I think we will probably go down to this one afterwards...

there's festival sudoeste, that starts on the last day of paredes de coura, in alentejo... it's hard to get there, and there's some kind of rivalry between these two festivals... I don't know what you want to see, but there's a good line up in this festival too...

with bjork, franz ferdinand, tindersticks, chemical brothers, goldfrapp and more... (this "more" are in the majority bands I don't know or don't really care about, but you can see all the festivals in portugal on this site... www.festivaispt.org)

Thanks for the tips. Wow, there certainly seems to be a lot going on in August in Portugal. You've got the Boom Festival that month as well!

Had a good look at both sites. The Alliance Fest doesn't look like it's a communal event with camping, etc. They just seem to give a few contact details for nearby campsites, I think, although, my translation of the portugese is based on my reasonable french and limited Italian!! Does it anyone know if it's even an outdoor festival? Cos, for me, the last place I wanna be in the middle of August is stuck in a warehouse somewhere. I don't know why they even call those event festivals!!

Couldn't quite work out Festival Sudoeste. It seemed that it does have camping, but you must reserve your pitch in advance (wtf?), which all seems fully booked. It looked a lot more comercial than the Festival Paredes de Coura - is that right? - I'm not sure it's the one for us, just from general first feelings. I like the idea of chilling out in the afternoon, doing a bit of yoga, playing a bit of guitar and then wandering down to see some of the bands!

On the Alliance Fest site they say it isn't open air, it will take place inside a sports pavillion...

I don't think there'd be a problem with the camping. I'm sure it works the same way as in every other festivals. You buy your pass and you've got access to the camping spots. (not too sure though, i've never been to Sudoeste festival).

But yeah, your first impression is correct, the whole spirit of the Sudoeste festival is different from the Paredes de Coura concept. It's much more commercial and pleasing to the masses.

Personally Paredes de Coura is my festival of choice even though i've never been to Sudoeste.

Well, I think we're just going to stick with Paredes de Coura as well. From everything I've heard so far, it sounds perfect for us.

On the PdC Festival site http://www.paredesdecoura.com, you can look at the photo galleries http://www.paredesdecoura.com/galeria/ and the posters and line-ups http://www.paredesdecoura.com/e_anteriores/ of the previous editions.

so why don't you go to those small festivals that only have Portuguese bands? Some of them have really good bands playing.

i would suggest this one, www.barcorockfest.com

it's only 8€ for the 4 days and the camping site is very good with a river next to it. It's a very small festival but with a good line-up this year.
