Merriweather Post Pavilion (MPP), named for cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, is
an outdoor concert venue located among Symphony Woods, a 40-acre (162,000-m²) lot of preserved land that sits in the heart of the planned community of Columbia, Maryland. It was originally intended to be a summer home for the National Symphony Orchestra but
later became a venue for more popular music concerts. Merriweather is known for its
astounding acoustics which are ranked in the top of outdoor amphitheaters. It was
designed by award-winning architect Frank Gehry and opened in 1967. The current capacity is 16,500.
High schools in Howard County, Maryland, hold their
graduation ceremonies at Merriweather Post in either late May or early June of each year.
